National Mourning Day in Bangladesh to mark assassination of Mujibur Rahman in 1975: Bangladesh is observing the 44th martyrdom anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman today. Bangladesh’s first President Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was assassinated along with 16 of his family members on this day in 1975. His daughters Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana survived as they were abroad at the time.
