HM Rajnath Singh terms PM Modi-Sharif meet an ‘innovative diplomacy’
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday said that he was taken by surprise to hear that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had decided to meet his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif in Lahore on his way back to Delhi from Kabul.
The minister while addressing the gathering in Lucknow said that after former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee it is Prime Minister Modi who has raised dignity of India at the world stage.
UN & US welcome PM Modi’s Pak visit
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon also welcomed the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif in Lahore.
A UN Spokesperson expressed hope that the bilateral dialogue will be maintained and strengthened.
When asked about the UN Chief’s response to PM’s visit to Pakistan, the spokesperson said, the Secretary General has long been encouraging the two countries to engage in dialogue.
14 killed in Muslim rebel attacks in southern Philippines
The dead included nine Christian villagers separately gunned down by Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighter insurgents and at least five rebels killed by government forces in clashes in three provinces on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
PM to share his thoughts in ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme tomorrow
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will share his thoughts on a number of issues in the Mann Ki Baat programme of All India Radio on Sunday.
This will be the 15th edition of the programme. It will be broadcast live on the entire network of All India Radio and Doordarshan at 11 in the morning.
Regional language versions of this broadcast will be aired by AIR stations in respective regions, at 8 in the evening same day.
The programme would also be live-streamed on the You Tube channels of Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and DD News.

An IT-enabled tool to help quit tobacco, and a dedicated helpline for Tuberculosis patients were also launched.
Polling for local bodies to be held in Maharashtra, Telangana
In Maharashtra, polling would be held on Sunday for seven seats of the Local Bodies’ Constituencies to elect new members of State Legislative Council.
Bharatiya Janata Party State Unit Spokesman Girish Vyas has already been declared elected unopposed to the Legislative Council from Nagpur Local Bodies Constituency.
The Nagpur seat is included amongst the total eight seats of the Self-Government Bodies going in for polls on Sunday.
