  1. TET (Teachers Eligibility Test)

It is arguably the most well-known exam for a career in teaching. National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE) is the body that sets the rules and regulation of the exam. It fixes the minimum educational qualification of the candidates as well. TET exam is taken both by Central Government and various state governments. The exam is taken in two parts I & II. Further, TET has two levels available for candidates. You can either choose Level I to become a primary teacher or you can opt for Level II to become a high school teacher. Of course, you can choose to appear in both the exams.

  1. CTET (Central Teacher Eligibility Test)

Central Board for Secondary Education (CBSE) conducts Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) for central Government schools like KVS, Central Tibetan Schools etc. Also, the union territories of India accept the test result for their recruitments. Some of the unaided private schools also take the result into consideration. The states other than union territories are provided with two options. Either they can accept CTET result or conduct their own state level Teacher Eligibility Test.

  1. UGC NET (University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test)

The first two tests are for teaching jobs in schools. But, if you are looking for a teaching career in universities and colleges, then you need to appear for UGC NET 2018 exam. This exam is conducted by CBSE and is for the post of Assistant Professor and Junior Research Fellows.

  1. SLET or SET (State Eligibility Test)

State Level Eligibility Test (SLET) is the examination for the post of lectureship in universities and colleges. It is similar to the State Eligibility Test (SET). In fact they are identical exams called differently in different states. It is state level and if one candidate clears it at one state, it will be valid for that state only. However, the validity of the pass certificate of the exam is life-long.

  1. TGT and PGT (Trained Graduate Test and Post Graduate Test)

Trained Graduate Test (TGT) and Post Graduate Test (PGT) are the two exams for the government school jobs in different states. These two exams are conducted by Secondary Education Service Selection Board.

  1. UPTET (Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test)

UPTET exam is specifically for the state of Uttar Pradesh for selection of Primary and Junior school teachers. It is conducted by Uttar Pradesh Basic Education Board. This year UPTET is being conducted by 68,500 vacancies creating an excellent opportunity for you to kick start your career.

  1. Primary Teachers Exam (PRT)

PRT exam is conducted by most of the states in India, for the recruitment of graduate teacher in state government schools. Aspirants for this exam must comprise senior school certificate with 50% marks or equivalent. Alongside, one must be competent to teach through English and Hindi media.
